Rachel Silver is a free-lance mosaic artist based in the colourful and vibrant area of Brick Lane, East London.
She originates from New Zealand and has an extensive background in the applied arts including ceramic production, glass casting, jewellery and sculpture making. Her love of such art forms and the ‘happy accidents’ that occur in technical processes such as the collection of precious broken shards, led her to an interest in the combination of these to produce hand crafted mosaics.
She studied traditional mosaic making methods, gaining hands on experience in various European cities - rich with the cultural and architectural history that a young country like hers couldn’t offer.
Although she is inspired every day by her immediate visually rich urban environment, the vivid colours, patterns in nature and movement of the south pacific are distinctive in her design style.
Rachel Silver specializes in the design and manufacture of commissioned mosaics for the private and public sector. Each project is site specific and may vary in size, scale and style content. Her work appeals to both the interior design market and for involvement in community and regeneration arts projects. |
